The duel between Kiambu Governor William Kabogo and Kabete MP Ferdinand Waititu is turning murkier as skeletons keep being thrown out of closets.
In the latest tirade recorded on video, Waititu has brought to the fore credibility issues against Kabogo showing why the governor is not a suitable leader.
Among those on Waititu's list is the attack of Madaraka Market in Thika where goods worth millions of shillings were destroyed in a fire allegedly started by goons affiliated to Kabogo. The issue has touched a raw nerve among traders whom the county government has been asked to compensate. Area MP Alice Ng'ang'a has also capitalised on the issue always portraying the governor as anti-common man.
Another issue is the disputed association of the Kiambu governor to the late university student Mercy Keino. Allegedly, Keino had attended a party hosted by Kabogo at the Wasini Luxury Suites in Nairobi. Keino's badly mangled body was discovered on Waiyaki Way three years ago. Those who testified in an inquest to unravel what happened to the university student said Keino left the party in a huff after an altercation but that was the last time she was seen alive.
From this, Waititu is recorded saying that Kabogo has no moral standing to question his credibility as he is associated with many ills in the society from murder to drug peddling.
The video recorded in Gikuyu language shows Waititu throwing punches at Kabogo and this is received with applause from his audience.
On the Keino issue, the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Keriako Tobiko wanted an inquest into the mysterious death of Keino reopened last year.
Kabogo is on Waititu's case due to the former's academic qualifications which the governor says are doctored. Waititu says Kabogo is out to tarnish his name. Kabogo has gone to court seeking to have Waititu’s papers investigated.
The video recording is a damper on Kabogo’s career as Waititu digs into his secret life and with only a year to next year's elections, time will tell who wins over Kiambu. We await more dirt as the two keep on the up and up to bring each other down.
