The county government of Kiambu has stepped up efforts to allay fears that the county healthcare is on a downward spiral since Governor Ferdinand Waititu came to office last year.
During the tenure of former Governor William Kabogo, Kiambu healthcare was one of the best in the country.
This follows a recent move by Waititu to push for accreditation of all private and public hospitals across the county by NHIF.
Waititu during the launch of a grand campaign on NHIF registration, said that all persons inclusive of the less fortunate do have the right to receive affordable health services.
“A kitty of Sh24 million has been allocated for the less fortunate to register for NHIF. All hospitals will be under accreditation by NHIF," Waititu said on Tuesday.
Together with AMREF health Africa, Waititu issued phones to the community health officials and representatives for use during NHIF registration.
Also, the mobile devices will be given out to offices of Members of County Assembly, bus stops, and clergies.
The county targets to register approximately 1million residents before November, 2018.
Also speaking during the launch, nominated MCA, Caroline Wambui said that the NHIF cover will include treatment of non-communicable diseases.
"These diseases drain funds of many families forcing many to opt for fundraising or sell property," she noted.
Additionally, the nominated MCA requested the government to register the physically challenged and the aged for free since the majority are not receiving wages.
