Opposition leader Raila Odinga bribed Members of Kiambu County Assembly to ditch President Uhuru Kenyatta's Jubilee Party for the National Super Alliance (NASA), Kabete MP Ferdinand Waititu has claimed.
The Jubilee gubernatorial candidate said his rival Governor William Kabogo was the mastermind behind the defection of the 21 sitting MCAs and aspirants.
"One even confessed to me of how they held a meeting a few days ago where they were each given Sh30,000 in order to join NASA," said Waititu speaking to a local vernacular radio on Tuesday.
The legislator added: "All the MCAs have been supporters of Kabogo. They lost in Jubilee nominations and some of them have decided, just like their leader (Kabogo), to run as independent candidates."
Waititu dismissed the move by the politicians saying that they have no influence in Kiambu politics and, thus, will not help Raila garner votes from the vote-rich county.
"They have killed their political careers by selling their allegiance to the Raila. Their association with him (Raila) will not give them any political relevance," the MP added.
The MCAs promised to vigorously lobby support for the former Prime Minister when he received them at Okoa Kenya offices in Nairobi, Monday.
