Governor Ferdinand Waititu has moved to save the political tenure of the Kiambu County House Speaker and the House Majority leader from the wrath of angry members of county assembly who were ganging up to impeach them.
A meeting convened by some Ward Representatives to oust the duo last weekend was called off after the intervention of Governor Ferdinand Waititu, who is said to have scuttled the move, which had the backing of 52 of the Assembly’s 92 members.
The governor is said to have stormed a secret meeting in Naivasha convened by the MCAs to finalise the impeachment road map and urged them to abandon the motion for development's sake.
The MCAs group who were working on the ouster are dissatisfied with the two for allegedly making decisions without involving them, thereby, exposing them to the wrath of the voters.
Among the decisions cited is the recent proposal to build a canteen and a lounge at the Assembly grounds at an exorbitant cost and the proposed construction of a new modern chamber.
One MCA stated, “Both Ndichu and Ikonya have taken us for granted for too long. They make serious decisions without involving members, which has turned the electorate against us.”
The governor directed the Speaker and Majority Leader to put their House in order failure to which he would no longer protect them from the Assembly.
However, the Speaker later came out to apologize on his Facebook account, saying he will not allow the projects to go on during his tenure.
