Kiambu Governor hopeful Ferdinand Waititu has refuted claims by some human rights activists that he is not fit to contest for public office.

Waititu alleges the human rights activists questioning his integrity are being funded by his rivals to ensure he is locked out of the August 8th general election.

Speaking to journalists in Kiambu on Thursday, he defended his integrity saying that he is fit to run for any political office including the presidency.

“These people should stop questioning my integrity because I am fit to run for any office of my choice,” he said as quoted by The Star.

Waititu stated that it is only the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), the police and the Ethics and Anti Corruption Commission (EACC) who can question his integrity and not human rights groups whose mandate and terms of operation he claims are not clear.

He added that his campaign spirit will not be dampened by human rights speculations.

Last week, human rights activists under the umbrella National Intercity Alliance petitioned the IEBC and the EACC to lock out 20 politicians who it claimed have no integrity and should not be cleared to contest for any political office in the August 8th polls.
