This has been announced by Kiambu County Governor Ferdinand Waititu.

Speaking to journalists at his office on Monday, Waititu said that there is huge shortage of houses in the county owing to the rising population.

Waititu said that his administration has set aside Sh1 Billion in the next financial year (2018/2019) to ensure houses are built across the county.

He said that unscrupulous business people have taken advantage of the few housing units to double up house prices and rent rates.

“We intend to set up 13,000 housing units in the next one year so that we can lower down the prices of houses and curb exorbitant rent locals are being forced to pay,” Waititu said.

The governor added that the county has partnered with several private developers to speed up the project.

Waititu noted that Kiambu population has steadily risen owing to its busy economic activities.

Meanwhile, the governor has said that a task force will be put in place to cushion locals from being charged exorbitant prices for land and houses.

The governor revealed that the task-force to be formed soon, will be conducting market rates, surveys, reviewing prices and advising locals and investors accordingly.

The Jubilee governor at the same time, said that the county’s revenue collection has increased.

He said that the county collects Sh46 Million every week up from Sh9 Million in the previous years.

The governor also stated that the county has created a conducive environment for local and foreign investors aimed at creating business and revenue for the people.
