Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu popularly known as Baba Yao has claimed that there are people planning to sabotage Deputy President William Ruto's 2022 presidential bid.
Waititu argued that opposition leader Raila Odinga is a threat to Ruto's bid and asked the DP to be wary of him following their recent handshake.
The Governor said the ODM leader is a political schemer who can turn tables against the DP at the last minute in his efforts to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta.
"The other day, I was talking to DP Ruto and I warned him against Raila. Nilimwambia hata watu wakiambiwa wafunge macho waombe, asifunge...(I told him that even while praying he should keep his eyes wide open)," Waititu said on Sunday during a fundraiser at StTheresa of the Child Jesus in Ngegu.
On Thursday last week, during the National Prayers Day, Ruto and Raila buried the hatchet and resolved to support Uhuru in the fight against corruption and in the realisation of his Big Four Agenda.
Recently there has been a war of words between the two leaders' camps over the push for the referendum, at one time ODM legislators terming Ruto as an 'enemy of the country'.
On the call to change the constitution, Waititu termed the amendments as unnecessary and costly, adding the exercise would make the Jubilee administration lose focus on its manifesto.
"We do not have funds to go to a referendum. The government is focused on delivering the Big Four," the Governor said.
