Stalled water projects in Kiambu County will soon get back on track.

This is after the county government formulated a framework to revive the projects today (Thursday) in a bid to address the problem of water shortage in the county.

According to Kiambu County governor, many households in the county have taps with no water. Speaking during a tour to the projects on Thursday Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu said that he will do everything possible to bring back the projects to life.

“We will compensate all those whose land has been affected by this project as well as those who spent their resources for its construction. As a county, we have to invest in water for irrigation because it is only food security that can guarantee us growth in other sectors,” said Waititu.

Kamwamba water project in Githobokoni ward, Gatundu North is one among some of the projects that are slated for revival having been allocated Shs.12.7 million.

On top of the water projects, the governor said that two dams are to be constructed in Ruiru to add to Kinari, Kariminu, and Gatamaiyu dams.

“We have also decided to merge all water companies within our county to ensure that they are run smoothly because we have so many water companies running on debts. We want Kiambu to be a typical water resource that will transform lives,” he added.

The governor expressed optimism lashing at his predecessor whom, he said, abandoned the projects to waste. Waititu said that once resuscitated, the projects will boost food production for the residents through irrigation.
