Mombasa governor Ali Hassan Joho has faulted president Uhuru Kenyatta for failing to waive debts of residents residing on Waitiki land in Likoni, despite waiving Sh2.4 billion for Nyeri coffee farmers.
According to Joho, it is discriminatory for the president to 'forget' the Waitiki land settlers, after he asked them to be paying a fee to the government for residing on the controversial land.
"Article 27 (4) of the Constitution of the Republic of Kenya prevents the state from discriminating any citizen of Kenya directly or indirectly on any grounds. It is unfair and discriminative for the Jubilee government to ease private debt for Coffee farmers to the tune of Sh2.4 billion and reject pleas for the same help for Waitiki land settlers in Likoni, Mombasa,'' said Joho.
The president waived the debt during his recent tour in Central Kenya.
"We demand similar consideration for our people and will be pursuing legal action for the same in the coming days,'' he added.
Joho was speaking when addressing residents during a rally in Bomani, Likoni Constituency.
He was flanked by Kilifi Senator Juma Boy, Mombasa women representative Mishi Mboko, Kilifi women representative Aisha Jumwa, among other ODM politicians.
