Wajir West MP-elect Ahmed Kolosh warned against victimizing county employees saying it’s wrong for governors to sack county employees without following laid down procedures.

Mr Kolosh said that Governor Abdi should not target some county staffs who voted for his opponents in the elections.

“Let us not target county employees from areas perceived to be hostile to the governor during the campaign,” he said.

The warning comes as newly elected governors and some who retained their seats went on a frenzy of firing staff who did not vote for them in the August 8 General Elections.

Woman representative-elect Fatuma Gedi who shared similar sentiments said the dismissal of staff for political reasons is a violation of the constitution.

Ms Gedi urged the new administration not to lay off county staff, but instead create more opportunities for youth.

“I wish to call upon the governor to diligently serve the people of Wajir and distribute opportunities equally,” she said.

Governor Abdi in his inaugural speech assured residents and county staffs that he will not victimize any county employee.

“My administration will embrace everyone in hope of revitalizing sub counties and wards and ensuring they receive equal attention at all levels,” the governor said.
