An ODM official has rubbished claims that Jubilee Party has made inroads in Wajir and that President Uhuru Kenyatta would garner more votes than opposition leader Raila Odinga in the county.
ODM county secretary Ibrahim Omar said Wajir residents are confident only the NASA government can appropriately solve the problems facing the people from the arid county.
“Don’t be cheated that Wajir residents have shifted their allegiance to Jubilee,” he said on Thursday in Wajir town.
“That has never happened and it will be confirmed on August 8,” he addded.
Wajir overwhelmingly voted for Raila in 2013, but Jubilee leaders in Wajir have been chest thumping that the party had made inroads in the county and Uhuru would thus gather majority votes in August.
In March, MPs Adan Keynan (Eldas) and Ibrahim Elmi (Tarbaj) and 15 MCAs ditched the opposition and joined Jubilee Party.
Omar said the fact that the leaders had shifted allegiance to Jubilee does not mean the ruling coalition will get majority votes in the devolved unit.
He said Jubilee had failed to solve the problems facing residents of the county.
“An honest assessment shows that the Jubilee government has done nothing in North Eastern for the past five years,” he said.
“As a people, we have been ignored and marginalised more than ever before.”
“We only have the county government to thank for the development we are witnessing, even with the meager resources allocated from the national government.”
