A Wajir resident on Thursday withdrew a petition to the IEBC, filed under his name, that called for the nullification of Jubilee governor aspirant Mohamed Abdi’s nomination over a fake degree certificate.
Voter Abdirahman Abdille claimed that he did not file the appeal, but somebody impersonating him obtained the documents and signed them with his name.
A voter identified as Abdirahman Abdille filed a petition at IEBC Northeastern region office claimed Abdi does not have a university degree the allegations caused panic among Jubilee supporters in Wajir county.
“The respondent is not qualified to vie for the governor position as he does not meet the threshold, since he does not have a degree,” the petition read as quoted by Star.
Abdi, a former envoy to Saudi Arabia, has never publicly responded to the allegations about his academic qualifications.
Wajir Jubilee branch chairman Mohamed Mohamud, has dismissed the petition saying Abdi’s academic credentials are in order and he was even cleared when he was interviewed by the Parliamentary Foreign Affairs Committee for the ambassador post to Saudi Arabia in 2013.
