Mombasa County Commissioner Maalim Mohamed has issued a stern warning to criminal gangs terrorizing residents in Likoni, Mombasa County.
Maalim said there is a new militia group going by the name Kapenguria Six, that wants to disrupt peace and intimidate people in the area.
The commissioner said emerging criminal gangs in the county would be crushed.
Maalim said police officers have been deployed in Likoni, adding that they will conduct crackdowns on criminal hideouts.
“There is this new militia group in Likoni calling itself Kapenguria Six. The name is an insult and disrespect to our freedom heroes who were detained in Kapenguria in colonial times,” said Maalim as quoted by the Nation.
“I want to warn these criminal gangs such as Wakali Wao and Wakali Kwanza that enough security officers have been deployed in the area and we shall crush them,” said Mr Maalim.
The county commissioner who was speaking during a meeting at Royal Court Hotel urged members of the public to work closely with the police in order to arrest members of the criminal gangs.
Mr Maalim also called on parents to see to it that their children are not involved in criminal activities.
