Environment Cabinet Secretary Judy Wakhungu has said the government is committed in the fight against poaching and ivory trade.
Speaking at the Kenya Wildlife Service Training Institute in Naivasha during a graduation ceremony of hospitality students on Thursday, the CS said the government has employed various tactics to curb poaching and ivory trade.
“Ivory traders and poachers should know that we are coming for them, it is no longer business as usual, the government will hunt them down,” warned the CS.
Wakhungu at the same time said the government is investigating how the three tonnes of ivory seized in Bangokok, Thailand early this week escaped security officials at the Mombasa port.
The CS said that those behind ivory trading are enemies of wildlife conservation, maintaining that she will fight them to the end.
Wakhungu further warned rogue government officials allegedly supporting ivory traders and poachers of stern action.
She said that the ministry is investigating claims that some government officials, especially at the Mombasa port could be aiding ivory trade.
Wakhungu said the government will work with other countries to tame ivory trade.
