Former Attorney General Amos Wako has applauded the recent court ruling on Constituency Development Fund Act and called for its realignment with the new law. Wako, who is also Busia County senator, said most of the lawyers who were involved in the drafting of the new constitution agreed with the ruling. “We concurred that the ruling was good and we need to work on the realignment of the Act with the new constitution,” he said. Speaking in Kisumu in the sidelines of the senate committee on public accounts and investments, Wako said that CDF has so far done commendable job across the country. He called upon legislators to come up with structures that are consistent with the new constitution to save it from being scrapped out. Wako further cautioned MPs against frustrating the Judiciary owing to the court ruling. “MPs should not use intimidation on the Judiciary over the CDF ruling, let them follow the procedure after one has lost a case,” he said. He said the legislators should uphold the constitution and follow correct channels if they dissatisfied by the court ruling instead of withholding funds to the Judiciary. Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale told the MPs to do serious oversight role instead of fighting for implementation of the projects. Khalwale said the oversight role in the national assembly has collapsed due to such new roles MPs are fighting over. “There is corruption being reported in the national assembly, our MPs have failed in their roles,” he said.
