Water Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa is among top public servants expected to resign by February 8, to join the political arena as the next general elections draw closer.

Cabinet Secretaries, PSs, heads of different government agencies and parastatal chiefs among other officers serving in government are expected to present their resignation letters to respective officers as they look forward to clinching different elective positions in this year’s polls.

Cabinet Secretaries are expected to present their letters of resignations to the office of the President before that time.

According to the Public Service Code of Conduct, one cannot vie for an elective post while at the same time serving in office.

Any aspirant who does not resign by that time will automatically be disqualified by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission.

The code, however, does not apply to some top officials in the government including the President, Deputy President, governors, deputy governors, MPs and MCAs.

CS wamalwa has already confirmed he presented his letter of resignation to the office of the president.

"It is not true I have already handed in my resignation, we still have some days," he said as quoted by the Star.

"That is when we will make the announcement."

Other aspirants expected to resign include Former MP Jebii Kilimo, Former CS Francis Kimemia, Former Industrialisation minister Henry Kosgey, Former Roads minister Franklin Bett, Former Information and Communication minister Samuel Poghisio and Kenyan High Commissioner to Tanzania Ali Chirau Mwakwere.
