Kiambu senator Kimani Wamatangi has accused governor William Kabogo of attempts to split the Mt Kenya vote in a scheme that looks to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta in 2022.
Speaking on Sunday shortly after receiving his Jubilee Party certificate, the lawmaker claimed that Kabogo was angling to succeed President Kenyatta alongside a host of other politicians from Mt Kenya who lost during the just concluded Jubilee Party primaries.
“President Kenyatta is the general of central Kenya region and presently he is the general of the country and we are not seeking to replace him or get a substitute until 2022," he noted.
“We will not divide our people because of individuals who have been meeting in hotels and boardrooms with a view to strategising on how to control politics in our region,” he added.
Wamatangi further challenged Kabogo to respect the decision of voters after the governor lost the Jubilee Party ticket during the party primaries.
Kabogo lost the party ticket to Kabete MP Ferdinand Waititu.
He has since announced that he will defend his seat as an independent candidate during the forthcoming polls.
