Kiambu senator Kimani Wamatangi has urged Catholic Church leaders and other religious leaders to use Pope Francis Visit to the country to call for unity and harmony among Kenyans.

Speaking to journalists at Limuru town on Monday, the Kiambu senator said that the Pope’s visit to the country later this month is significant and must be used to call for unity, peace and tolerance.

Wamatangi said that the country is facing various challenges and that Faithfull’s should use the papal visit to pray for the country.

“It is good news that the Pope will be visiting the country and it will be important for us to use the opportunity to pray for our country,” he said.

The Kiambu senator said that the country will be put on an international map again with the Pope’s visit after the visit by US President Barack Obama in July.

The Kiambu senator urged the government to ensure security for all faithful who will be attending the Pope’s mass.

Pope Francis is expected in the country for a three day visit from November 25. The pope is expected to hold meetings with the government and also conduct masses. Millions of faithfuls from across the country and across borders are expected to attend Pope's masses during his visit.

Preparations for his arrival are in top gear with government assuring faithful wishing to attend the Pope’s masses of security.

Government says that at least 20,000 police officers have been deployed to in Nairobi to provide security during the Pope’s visit.
