Following the re-election of Kiambu Senator Kimani Wamatangi, he has been short listed as one of the potential leaders set to assume the role of Senate Deputy Speaker.
Wamatangi joins Murang’a Senator Irungu Kang'ata and Nakuru Senator-elect Susan Kihika on the list of potential leaders set to assume the role.
According to the Kiambu Senator Wamatangi, he is very interested in taking up the position as Senate Deputy Speaker.
“It is true that I am going for the Deputy Speakers’ position because I am qualified for it,” Wamatangi said as reported by the Daily Nation.
Wamatangi has also expressed interest in the Senate's majority whip position which is said to be highly sought over
“Depending on the agreement of Jubilee affiliated parties, I will either get the Deputy Speakers’ position or the chief whip,” Wamatangi said.
“I got the second highest number of votes in last elections. I sponsored many Bills in the 11th parliament and I have been active on the floor of the House. What else do I need to be the Deputy Speaker?” asked Wamatangi.
