Kiambu senator Kimani Wamatangi has termed Kabogo’s remarks that the region is not likely to support Deputy President William Ruto presidential bid in 2022 as unfortunate.
Wamatangi on Thursday told Kabogo to speak for himself adding that his remarks could create political anxiety between leaders in the Mt Kenya region and Rift Valley.
The senator said that Kabogo has no authority to speak on behalf of the region.
Wamatangi also warned that early succession politics for 2022 was not necessary now.
“This is not the right time for succession politics and more so the 2022 elections because we have not even passed the 2017 elections,” he said.
The senator also urged leaders to focus on fulfilling the development pledges instead of focusing on selfish politics.
“This is the time elected leaders should be focusing on fulfillment of development instead of taking part in smear and cheap politics aimed at fulfilling their own interests,” said the Kiambu senate lawmaker.
Kabogo has been under attacks from a section of politicians in Mt Kenya and Rift Valley over his remarks that the region might not support DP Ruto’s presidential bid in 2022.
Kabogo has however defended himself saying that he said the truth and that DP Ruto is his personal friend.
Kabogo also said that he owes no one an apology over the statement.
