A Senator now wants the formula used by the Commission on Revenue Allocation (CRA) to distribute funds to counties reviewed.

Kiambu lawmaker Kimani Wamatangi said population was the main parameter used by CRA to determine the revenue allocation, noting this was unfair to cosmopolitan counties which host and serve high numbers of 'migrant populations'.

He said resources allocated to counties like Kiambu are used by 'outsiders' at the expense of the local community.

"You cannot tell somebody who has moved from another county that when he or his house help gets sick; they cannot be treated at a health centre in Kiambu because their allocation for health services are factored in their home county," he said.

The Senator, speaking to the Nation, vowed to push for a friendly formula for revenue allocation to the cosmopolitan counties.

"Developed counties, whose revenue allocation is only based on its population, might become marginalised since residents do not get enough to meet their needs," Wamatangi said.
