Wamatangi said on Saturday that rogue officers still exist in the police force claiming that they were harassing, intimidating and killing innocent Kenyans as NPSC watched.

Speaking during the burial of lawyer Willie Kimani who was allegedly executed by police officers, Wamatangi said NPSC had failed to implement the much-hyped police reforms.

“We are telling NPSC chairman Johnston Kavuludi to get rid of rogue officers who are still in the police force. We want action now,” he said.

He also called for fresh vetting of police officers claiming that the ongoing exercise by NPSC is a sideshow.

Wamatangi also urged the Independent Police Oversight Authority (IPOA) to stamp its authority and help get rid of rogue officers as there have been claims of police officers engaging in extrajudicial killings.

Last week Police spokesperson Charles Owino denied claims of existence of hit squads in the police service.

At the same time, Kabete MP Ferdinand Waititu asked Interior Cabinet Secretary Joseph Nkaissery to order the arrest of those involved in torching the Syokimau AP Camp, where slain lawyer Willie Kimani, his client and driver were allegedly held before being killed.

Waititu claimed that torching the AP camp was done to destroy evidence on the killings.

On Wednesday last week, protesters burned down a section of the Syokimau Camp and the police have already summoned Mavoko MP whom they accuse of leading the protestors.
