Kiambu senator Kimani Wamatangi has asked voters to thoroughly vet politicians contesting for political seats before voting for them in the August 8 general election.

Speaking when he unveiled his election campaign secretariat in Kikuyu on Tuesday, the senator said that Kenyans have an opportunity to vote for leaders who will champion for development.

The Kiambu senator stated that the country’ development agenda will be spearheaded only by visionary and development conscious leaders.

“Kenyans will have themselves to blame if they end up electing ineffective and non-performing leaders in the August 8 polls,” the senator said.

Wamatangi also asked Kenyans to vote for leaders who will champion and protect devolution.

The Kiambu senatorial lawmaker noted that devolution is what Kenyans needs to streamline development.

Wamatangi who is seeking re-election as Kiambu senator appealed to Kenyans to vote for Jubilee government.

The senator said that Jubilee has achieved most of the pledges it made to the electorate in 2013.

“President Uhuru Kenyatta’s government has achieved what it promised Kenyans in 2013 and will achieve more if it is given a second term,” he said.

The senator cautioned Kenyans against being divided by petty politicians who are only interested in votes.

Wamatangi is facing stiff competition in his re-election bid as a section of aspirants have lined up to send him packing.

Ngewa MCA Karungo Thang’wa is among aspirants eyeing Wamatangi’s seat.

An opinion poll by Trends and Insights for Africa (TIFA) released on Tuesday showed that senator Wamatangi enjoys locals support and that he would be re-elected if elections were to be held today.

The survey rated Wamatangi at 39 per cent followed by Thang’wa at 13 per cent.

Other aspirants eyeing the Kiambu senate seat George Nyanja, Stephen Ndichu and Stanley Githunguri were rated at 5 percent respectively.

Last week Wamatangi denied speculations that he was planning to contest for the Kiambu governor seat saying that he will seek re-election as senator.
