Wamunyu dairy farmers have been urged to adopt the concept of adding value to their milk to get a higher profit margin.Speaking to the Dairy Farmers Cooperative Society members on Thursday Machakos Dairy Cattle Self Help Group chair Mr Wilson Kyalo said for farmers to achieve sales success, they have to think of themselves as producing milk for end users."Consumers' demand is now based on things like variety and quality. That means observing something like basic value addition of your milk before marketing it is something that the consumers will highly appreciate,” said Kyalo. He noted that many farmers were misconstruing value addition to mean heavy processing."That is not the case. Value addition in essence is economically changing a product from its original state to a more valuable state that is more preferred in the market place,” he said. The agricultural officer said customers tastes and preferences are now more dynamic than ever before and therefore calling for more innovations and integrations was necessary.
