Speaking on Thursday during a press briefing outside Machakos T-Tot Hotel, Prof. Tony Wambua, the resident’s organisation representative cited that judges had agreed on the proposal of beginning a Court branch in Wamunyu town.

“We have had a fruitful meeting and the Judges have agreed to consider the residents plea to bring a Court nearer to the people because it has been a strenuous exercise to the residents to travel far to attend Courts,” said Prof. Wambua.

According to Prof. Wambua the residents of Wamumyu, Mwala and Kibaoni travel more than 60 kilometres to have their cases heard in Courts located in Machakos town.

Confirming the agreement Head of Machakos Judges Committee Lillian Mutende stated that a research will be done to inspect the buildings Wamunyu residents had suggested to host the Court.

The residents suggested that one of the buildings in Wamunyu town on the government land be used as a Court building.

“We have considered the residents plea but first there will be an inspection of the hall in the said town before we confirm on the details of when the Court will start operating,” said Mutende.

It is a reprieve to the area residents who lamented that in 2014 the area had a high number of cases amounting up to 591 hearings with the only option of getting a solution so many Kilometres away.
