Ugunja Member of Parliament Opiyo Wandayi has accused President Uhuru Kenyatta of using allegations of incitement to threaten Cord leader Raila Odinga.
Speaking at Parliament Buildings on Thursday, Wandayi claimed that Uhuru was abusing his powers by trying to silence Opposition leaders.
"By attacking Raila Odinga he (Uhuru) has proved that he the greatest threat to the unity and stability of our nation," Wandayi said.
The MP said the President should differentiate between the orders he can issue as the Head of State and the political statements he makes as a presidential contender.
“Never has this country had such a tribal bigot and a crybaby for a president as we have in President Uhuru Kenyatta today,” he said.
The legislator was reacting to remarks made by the President during his tour of Embu County on Wednesday. Uhuru warned that the government would take action against politicians who incite Kenyans to violence during the electioneering period.
Wandayi, who was accompanied by 10 ODM MPs, insisted that the coming general election must be credible saying the Opposition will accept nothing less.
“We, therefore, wish to the government to stop threatening Kenyans with arrests and detention for demanding that the upcoming elections be free, fair and transparent," he added.
