Raila Odinga's presidential bid received a major boost after he was endorsed by the Wanga subtribe of the Luhya community.
Raila's endorsement came when over 300 Wanga elders from Matungu constituency declared the constituency will vote for NASA as a bloc.
The elders made the 'Matungu Declaration' at a meeting in Bulimbo.
The Wanga elders complained of the ineptitude of the current leadership and said it could not help them grow economically.
Speaking at the declaration, Abashitsetse clan chaiperson Sheikh Hamisi Mumia said they came to the decision to support Raila after finding him to have at heart the interests of the people of Wanga.
“The Luhya, especially those from Matungu, don’t want to be divided among clans, but vote as a bloc to ensure we get good leadership from NASA,” Mumia said.
The however defied the call from ODM party for a six-piece voting system saying they will vote Raila but will divide the rest of the seats among the other NASA affiliate parties.
