ODM leader Raila Odinga gave Homabay Women Representative Gladys Wanga special tribute, raising questions over looming succession battle should he retire.
Whether he wins or not, Odinga has previously confirmed that he will not be on ballot paper in 2022 elections.
At Homabay stadium, Odinga praised her adding that he was privileged to work with a ‘focused’ woman politician in his entire political career.
“I have no problem when not around because Wanga is doing a fantastic job. She is a blessing to our party,” said Odinga amid cheers from enthusiasts.
He added: “I appeal to you to work with her to ensure we succeed not only in August but also in future. This is a unique person to work with.”
During nominations, the popular leader was the only high profile politician from Luo Nyanza who was not subjected to primaries and was subsequently chosen to lead presidential campaigns in Nyanza.
She always accompanied Odinga virtually to all major rallies across the country, a privilege only preserved for James Orengo.
Should Odinga retire soon, she is well poised to inherit the populous Luo Nyanza voting block.
