Gladys Wanga could eventually take over as Luo community supremo defacto from opposition leader Raila Odinga, claims Dismas Mokua.
Whether he wins in August all not, Odinga has maintained that he will leave politics by the year 2022 where he will retire as president should he be elected.
And Mokua says Wanga’s excellence in political arena puts her at pole position to succeed Odinga, who has been the community spokesperson for over two decades.
“I look around and see no one determined to succeed Odinga other than Wanga. She is such committed and focused to take over,” he says.
Mokua adds: “Virtually, she is the only politician who was not opposed during ODM nominations and that is a plus for her.”
Although it is not clear whether Wanga can be installed spokesperson in the patriarchal Luo community, her zeal has been rewarded after Odinga put her in charge of ODM Nyanza campaigns.
Should she stay longer in politics, she is expected to vie for Homabay governorship in 2022 elections, at a time when lawyer James Orengo and Raila Odinga will be too old for national leadership.
