In a move to prevent health workers from downing their tools in future, Bungoma's newly elect Governor Wycliffe Wangamati has pledged to increase their salaries.Wangamati told journalists on Wednesday that he will ensure the county has quality health services by paying the workers well. He further noted since he is a son of a nurse, he will prioritise the welfare of the workers.“We will genuinely work to ensure healthcare workers are properly paid and their capacity enhanced to help attain our goal of universal access, not just for free, but also quality healthcare services,” Wangamati said.“I am the son of a nurse and so the welfare of our people comes first. I will invest in programmes that directly impact lives," he noted.“My government will also work on building, staffing and equipping a dispensary in each ward. Through collaborations, we will put up a level five county referral hospital to support other health facilities," the governor added.Speaking on NHIF, the Ford Kenya governor said he will ensure each home is given a card. The new county boss took over power from the former governor Kenneth Lusaka in the recently concluded August 8 polls.
