Addressing the press Wednesday, after a 15-minute standoff with civilian police officer at Museum Hill Road in Nairobi, Wanjigi accused the President Uhuru Kenyatta-led leadership of persecution.

The renowned business man was trailed by plain clothes law enforcers before being stopped and ordered out of his car but he defied the directive.

He was then handed a court order, directing him to appear before a Nyeri Magistrates Court on Thursday, a move Wanjigi termed as a plot by the government to re-introduce dictatorship denying any wrongdoing.

''The dark days are back through this government. Jubilee has resorted to persecution but we are ready to take the hit,'' said Wanjigi.

He said that soon the government will be out, giving room for a better leadership to take over.

Wanjigi reiterated the opposition's stand, that Uhuru Kenyatta's stay at the helm of the government is illegitimate and warned him against any attempts to compel Kenyans into acknowledging his rule.

''The dark days will be over soon. Kenyans should stay calm as we are approaching the end of Uhuru's leadership and he should know that he will not gain legitimacy via persecution,'' he added.

Wanjigi is not new to such incidences as he was recently temporarily barred from leaving the nation to attend former Zimbabwean opposition leader Morgan Tsvangirai's burial alongside Siaya Senator James Orengo.
