Many parents now live in fear of having to entrust their children to nannies having seen, heard or experienced how the house helps mistreat children.

Some have even killed innocent children to get back at the parents.

As a result, some parents prefer taking their children to daycare centres where they pick them in the evening instead of having a house help look after them. Although some house helps are naturally bad people, some are usually good people but their employers push them to be evil. This should not justify child mistreatment.

If you want your nanny to treat your child well, better treat her right. She too is human and she should not be treated in a way that seems demeaning. Appreciating what she does will make her feel that you not only care about your child but also about her well being. Helping her with the household duties portrays you as a concerned person rather than a selfish woman who sits and gives orders.

Being too bossy may anger your nanny and she might end up relieving her anger on your child once you are away. Showing the nanny that you can entrust her with your house is equally important. Locking the fridge and hiding the food from her so that she doesn't misuse the food will only make it worse.

Let her eat as much as she can and let her enjoy some freedom while you are away. Remember if you deny her enough food, once you leave the house your child is bound to starve as she'll feast on the baby's food. She also needs a day off at least once a week so that she doesn't feel overworked.

A Sunday would be good day so that she also gets to enjoy her freedom to worship.

Quarrelling her all the time too is not good for her. Just make her understand every mistake she makes in a calm and friendly way and this will enhance a good relationship. Even if you don't really like your nanny, it's important to try and be good and kind to her for the sake of your child.

And if it is enduring the nanny, then just fake it till you make it or until your children can be safely independent of a chaperone around the house.
