Tottenham’s Kenyan international midfielder Victor Wanyama has down the chance to take down to be taking to the turf in the same colours as Egyptian superstar Mohammed Salah.
This is after the strong defensive midfielder rubbished rumours linking him to the Merseyside club that plays Real Madrid this weekend in the Champions League Final in Kyiv.
An injury-hit 2017/2018 season meant Wanyama fell further down the pecking order behind the likes of Belgian Moussa Dembele and Eric Dier in Spurs’ starting eleven.
He has however turned down the English Sides’ advances and cowed to come back stronger at the start of next season.
“I don’t respond to rumours and all those are rumours to me, I still have a contract with Spurs and that is what I want to see through,” Wanyama said when asked if he fancies a move to the Reds.
If the move happens, Wanyama will have to add an attacking instinct and touch to his game because that is what the Liverpool game is about, attack and speed.
The midfielder has spent most of the past campaign on the bench as well as in rehab having broke his leg in the opening stages of the football season and it was the major undoing as he failed to unsit Eric Dier in the starting eleven on his return.
Regardless of what happens, he will have to add more aspects to his game and be in shape to start the next campaign on a high and hope either of Dier or Dembele have a dip in form to allow him take his chances or better still move to Anfield.
Should Liverpool get serious about their pursuit of the midfielder, we will probably be seeing him line up alongside the likes of Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Salah.
The move could also help Liverpool galvanize their shaky midfield.
