Kiambu county commissioner Wilson Wanyanga has warned male politicians allegedly intimidating women aspirants eyeing for elective seats in the 2017 general elections.

Wanyanga says that his office has received complaints from a section of female aspirants of being intimidated and harassed by their male counterparts.

The commissioner says that the constitution has given equal rights to male and fame citizens to seek political office and that it I criminal of any gender to intimidate or harass the other.

Wanyanga said that his office is investigation the claims and will take action against the culprits.

“Women have the same and equal rights to vie and pursue political seats of their choice and we will not tolerate male politicians who are out to intimidate their female colleagues,” he said.

The Kiambu county commissioner stated that his office has planned a meeting for all political aspirants in the county.

“We have planned for a meeting with all political aspirants to discuss various issues in relations to the 2017 general elections,” he said.

Wanyanga urged politicians to spearhead unity and stop engaging in acts that could trigger violence.

He also asked Kenyans to associate with politicians who spew hate speech in their campaigns.

Last month a section of female MCAs in Thika led by nominated MCA Florence Ngeru complained of alleged intimidation from male politicians.

Ms Ngeru said that some male politicians are intimidating women aspirants who have shown interest in various political seats in the area.

The MCA had urged the police to intervene saying that they have the equal rights to vie for any seat just like their male counterparts.
