Wanyororo B Location Chief Bethwel Maina has urged youth to apply for Uwezo Funds to improve their livelihoods.
Maina has however expressed concern over low intake of the fund by the youth, and said he would hold more ‘barazas’ to sensitise youths on the importance of the fund.
“The fund is set to benefit youth but we are worried by low applications by the youth,” said Maina.
Speaking on Saturday at Wanyororo shopping center, Bahati Ward during a public ‘baraza’, Maina said that the fund have made a great impact on the lives of youth.
“The fund was structured in tandem with the needs and aspirations of youth and there is need for our youth to apply for the fund,” said the chief.
The administrator said that the fund has drastically changed the lives of many youths who have abandoned crime and resorted into fair generation of income.
“I have witnessed fewer cases of crime due to success of Uwezo Fund among youth, at least many have become busy after setting up small businesses,” added Maina.
Maina however urged for restructuring of the fund to ensure repayments models do not over weigh on the youth.
“Most youth shy from taking the loan due to interest, the fund should be free-interest to attract more youth,” said Maina.
He also urged youth to make use of the funds to improve their living standards and desist from drinking sprees.
