The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) will soon launch an audit into the accounts and assets owned by civil servants both at the national and county government level in efforts to tame corruption, EACC Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Halakhe Waqo has said.

In a press statement to the media on Monday, Waqo said that the move is meant to curb corruption and misuse of public resources at the national and county government.

The CEO said that the commission is preparing guidelines and framework for the audit that will start soon.

“We are determined to curb corruption at both the national and county government level and we will soon start auditing lifestyles, accounts and assets of civil servants to ensure that they conform to the Chapter Six of the constitution on Integrity,” he said in the statement.

The EACC official said that the commission is committed to fight graft warning that no individual linked to corruption will be spared.

Waqo also noted that the commission has established good and professional working relations with other independent government offices to ensure that the war on graft is successful.

The EACC official at the same time dismissed claims of selective investigations saying that the commission is mandated to conduct investigations and sent the probe files to the Director of Public Prosecutions who approves the prosecution of suspects.

Meanwhile, Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua has vowed to fight graft at the county.

The governor who presented his wealth declaration forms to the EACC for vetting on Monday said that he will not tolerate corrupt officials and staff at the county.

Mutua said that he will lead by example and invited the EACC to audit lifestyles of all Machakos County workers.
