MCAs on Thursday reacted angrily over reports that Kisumu City Manager Doris Ombara had been sacked.
Shauri Moyo/Kaloleni ward representative Prisca Misachi said MCAs will challenge the sacking of Ombara.
Ms Misachi said the City Manager has turned around the city of Kisumu during her tenure and wondered why she is being removed from the position.
She said Governor Jack Ranguma has little time remaining to the 2017 general election and should not destabilise his working force in the county.
“We will not allow the sacking of Ms Ombara. What has she done to warrant sacking,” she asked.
Jacktone Onunga of Nyalenda A ward said the sacking is in relation to the Sh4 billion allocated to the Kisumu Urban Project.
Onunga said the leadership of women must be protected by all means.
“They want to control the project and Ombara has stood firm, they want to loot funds meant to uplift the lives of Kisumu residents,” he said.
His Kolwa Central counterpart Kelvin Oraro accused the governor of making unpopular decisions.
Oraro said contracts are the bone of contention and demanded that the county executive furnish the assembly with reasons why they are sacking Ombara.
“They want to give contracts to their loyalists and we will not allow it,” he said.
Ombara was credited with restoring Oile Park.
When contacted, she said she is waiting for official communications from the Governor’s office after receiving verbal communications.
