Governor James Ongwae said the cash will be equally disbursed to the 45 wards with each getting 5 million.

"We plan to scale up our commitments in education from Sh135 million to Sh225 million to cover more students," he said.

The sponsorship program, prominently known as the County Bursary, begun three years ago and is given to every ward in Kisii County to support destitute students from those wards.

Mr Ongwae said that despite the fact that there has been postponement in the disbursement of funds it is due to amendments in the act of education development fund in the county.

He encouraged guardians to remain quiet as the procedure of recognising the recipients of the funds has been finalised and the distributions are set to begin.

Mr Ongwae encouraged needy students to grab the opportunity and apply for the bursary with the goal that they can accomplish their studies.
