‘Warembo na Uhuru’, a lobby group pushing for President Uhuru Kenyatta’s re-election has registered over five thousand members in Mombasa County.

The group’s officials say they have successfully registered 5,800 members in the county considered an opposition stronghold going by the county’s elected leaders’ party affiliations.The lobby’s brain child and national chairperson Warda Ahmed said the group which started in Mombasa has spread its roots and netted more members mainly from Central Kenya where Uhuru hails from.She said of the Coastal counties of Mombasa, Kwale, Lamu, Kilifi, Tana River and Taita Taveta where 30,500 women are members; Taita Taveta had listed the highest number of adherents at 6,900.Kwale, she said has 6,800 while Kilifi, Tana River and Lamu have 4,800, 3,700 and 2,500 recruits respectively.Overall, she said they had succeeded in recruiting 1.5 million members countrywide.Rift Valley, she said, has 450,000 registered members.“A part from selling the Jubilee agenda, we have become peace ambassadors, spreading the message that there is life after the general election,” Warda said when the group’s members toured Mvita constituency.She said ‘Warembo na Uhuru’ has 47 county chairpersons who coordinate the lobby’s activities in each of the 47 devolved units.
