Wareng Secondary School teachers on Friday took to the streets of Eldoret town, protesting against alleged harassment by their school principal.
Led by Uasin Gishu County Kuppet Secretary General Elijah Maiyo, the teachers complained of mass transfers and misappropriation of welfare funds.
"It's unfortunate that if a teacher has a different opinion contrary to principal's he or she is transferred, he has also embezzled our welfare funds," Maiyo claimed.
Speaking to journalists after the demonstrations Maiyo said in a span of three years, 13 teachers have been transferred.
"This term alone three teachers have been transferred by the principal replacing them with Board of Management teachers who are not qualified," he said.
He added that the principal's 18-year tenure in the school had seen 300 teachers transferred.
"We are urging TSC to transfer this principal with immediate effect, and if they won't, we will remove him ourselves," he warned.
While addressing the affected teachers, Uasin Gishu County TSC Director Beatrice Agala promised to conduct investigations into the matter.
However, Wareng Secondary School principal Julius Kamatei refuted the claims, saying they were false and meant to tarnish his name.
"I'm running the school in a democratic way and no teacher whatsoever has been harassed. I'm not aware of such claims," he said.
