Kenya Meteorological Department Director Peter Ambenje said that counties such as Mandera and Marsabit in the region are expected to receive heavy rainfall.

Wajir, Garissa and Isiolo counties will however experience rains over few places in the morning with possibility of showers in the afternoon.

Mr Ambenje said several areas within Lake Victoria Basin, the highlands in Rift Valley and Central region, and Nairobi will receive heavy rainfall.

He said the counties to be affected are Turkana, Samburu, West Pokot, Elgeyo-Marakwet, Trans Nzoia, Uasin Gishu, Nandi, Baringo, Nakuru, Kericho, Bomet, Kakamega, Vihiga, Kisii, Nyamira, Laikipia, Nyandarua, Kiambu, Muranga and Nyeri.

“Heavy rainfall of more than 50mm is expected on Monday in parts of Western, Central and North Rift Valley, Northern and Central regions.”

“Flooding is likely to continue over low-lying and poorly drained areas that have already been receiving heavy rainfall while there is also a possibility of landslides occurring in areas where the soils have become saturated with rain and flood waters,” said Mr Ambenje.

Nairobi, Nyandarua, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang'a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, and Tharaka Nithi counties will experience cloudy mornings with possibility of rains over few places.

Mombasa, Tana River, Kilifi, Lamu and Kwale counties will experience morning and early afternoon showers over few places.

The weatherman advised the people to be more cautious as the rains continue hitting many parts of the country warning those in low lying area to relocate to higher ground.

“Do not walk in moving water or drive through it. Please keep to safer grounds until the flooding subsides. Do not shelter under trees and near grilled windows or walk in open fields, this exposes one to lighting strikes,” said Mr Ambenje.
