Kiambu county government through the Agriculture department is transforming Waruhiu Agricultural Training Centre (WATC) into world-class research and technology centre.
The CEC for Agriculture Dr Monicah Waiganjo said the institution will be a one stop source for farmers all needs.
The county has already entered into a partnership with Aquaflo Tech Kenya Ltd to construct an aquaculture recirculatory system demonstration unit at the Centre in Githunguri.
Farmers will be taught on how to use the new technology to increase on fish production.
The county is also in the initial stages to construct an embryo transfer laboratory to cater for both domestic and export collection of embryos.
The embryo transfer technology which is more advanced to artificial insemination (AI), provide a quality assured service and knowledge on maximising donor responses and recipient management.
Waruhiu Agricultural Training Centre will also have guesthouses to accommodate guest farmers. Revenues from accommodation facilities in addition to income streams from coffee and bananas in the farm, will be used to sustain the centre.
