New details suggest that Kenya’s ‘super’ eye witness Dennis Muigai Ngengi masqueraded as a Presidential Escort officer.

In a fresh twist that reminisces police imposter Joshua Waiganjo’s dreadful cover as a police officer, two women told detectives they knew Ngengi as a police officer attached to the Presidential Escort for years.

Police imposter Joshua Waiganjo was in June 2017 charged with five counts including that of impersonating a senior police officer.

Waiganjo was initially sentenced to five years in jail for impersonating a police officer, dressing in police uniform and being in possession of government stores before High Court judge Christine Meolli quashed his five-year jail term.

Damaris Karuitha, told police that throughout the time they lived together with Ngengi she understood the peculiar eyewitness was a member of the security team working for President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Karuitha lamented that the man tricked her into marriage before she discovered he was a “pathological liar”, Nation reports.

Ngengi has been arrested and charged with six different crimes. Detectives stated earlier that the man had been using different names.

A second woman, explained that she met the Ngengi guy in Nanyuki in 1996. She told investigators that the man had told her he worked closely with President Kenyatta and on several occasions, he received calls from a man whose contacts were saved as “H.E.”, the widely known acronym for His Excellency.

DCI Ndegwa Muhoro on Wednesday said the man’s official name was Charles Karanja though he has been disguising himself as Alex Musyoka, Martin Githaiga, Martin Mutangilu, Francis Theuri, Charles Karanja Mwangi, Anthony Waweru and Francis Karanja Mwaniki on separate occasions.

Ngengi’s sister Nancy Wanja and his uncle Francis Njogu told the probe team that the man usually claimed he was a close ally of the President.

DCI report showed that results from forensic analysis of the man’s fingerprints indicate he was a man on the run with similar charges against him in the past.

But police were provoked to question the presence of Ngengi in two high-profile accidents after Kenyans expressed shock on how he could witness two major incidents last week.

Ngengi spoke to the media at the scene of the October 21 Nakuru air crash where he claimed to be a state police and at the November 7 accident that claimed Nyeri Governor Wahome Gakuru’s life, he claimed to have witnessed the Governor's car crash.

So far, the man has been charged with stealing, impersonation, giving false information, obtaining money under false pretence and assault.

Reports detail that the mysterious eye witness has been charged in Narumoru, Nkubu, Mweiga, Kiganjo, Rumuruti, Meru and Baricho for different crimes.

He was arrested in Ruiru on November 10 and his case is set to be mentioned on November 27 with the hearing on January 8.
