A school watchman was on Monday sentenced to 15 years in prison by a Mombasa Court after he was found guilty of defiling a 17-year-old girl.
Mjera Nyota Matanda was facing charges of raping the girl at Consolata Primary School in Likoni, Mombasa County on February 27.
The accused had pleaded guilty to the defilement charges before the court and asked to be forgiven.
The accused pleaded with the court to pardon him claiming he was sorry and he will not repeat the mistake.
Mombasa Senior Principal Magistrate Ongeri Nyakweba had ordered for a probation report and a mental examination of the accused after he pleaded guilty to the rape charges.
A probation officer in his report said the accused was unfit to serve a non-custodial sentence and recommended a custodial sentence or incarceration.
Magistrate Nyakweba in his ruling found the accused guilty and sentenced him to serve 15 years in jail, saying that the accused had been on a one-year probation and was likely to repeat the same offence if he was let to serve a communal sentence.
