A night guard has been murdered in cold blood at Kathiani in Machakos County.
The unidentified man lost his life while his colleague sustained serious injuries after they were attacked by an armed gang of robbers in Nzaikoni on Friday night.
The 16 member gang armed with machetes and other crude weapons attacked the two watchmen while on duty in the fateful night.
The duo was manning a Sacco building during the 3.00am incident.
Confirming the incident, Kathiani police boss Lazarus Tarus said the thugs failed to steal from the building since they were unable to break into a safe.
Tarus police had launched investigations into the matter.
He expressed confidence that they will arrest members of the gang behind the watchman's murder.
Tarus said the culprits fled after an alarm went off at the nearby area MP Robert Mbui's office.
He said watchmen should be vigilant while at work and blow whistles to raise alarm whenever they are in danger.
The deceased's body was removed to Machakos Level Five Hospital's mortuary while the injured man is undergoing treatment at the same health facility.
