A 45- year-old security guard was on Tuesday arraigned in a court in Nakuru to face charges of aiding robbery and failing to prevent a felony.

Chief Resident Magistrate Samuel Mungai was told by the prosecution that the accused, Francis Walekwa, who was prior to his arrest an employee of Inter City Security Company and attached at a private residence belonging to Dr. Gordon Salano within Milimani area in Nakuru town failed to prevent a felony on February 20 this year, and that he collaborated with others who were not before court to steal household goods valued at Sh500,000 from his employer.

According to the prosecution desk, the accused, who was supposed to be on duty on that day and time failed to act by raising an alarm, when armed robbers broke into the complainant’s residence while he was away on duty.

The court was told that the accused, who was found gagged and tied on a tree within the compound after the robbers had driven away, was part and parcel of the robbery plan, as investigations by police had revealed.

The court was told that no ordinary security guard can be taken un-ware by thieves without raising a slightest of an alarm or struggle.

The prosecution further requested the court to remand the accused in custody to allow police finalize investigations into the robbery incident.

The magistrate nodded to the prosecution’s request, suspending the case indefinitely without asking for pleas from the accused.
