Three men were on Thursday night killed in Garissa Town by unknown gang in a hotel compound.
The three, a watchman and two local hotel staff were hit with blunt objects on their heads during the 3am incident.
Garissa County Commissioner James Kianda said the gang members scaled the perimeter wall to the hotel compound undetected and descended on the victims who were sleeping at the hotel.
Kianda, who described the murder as heinous said preliminary investigations showed the victims were killed with sharp and blunt objects, and nothing was stolen from them during the attack.
The CC however urged the area residents to remain calm and work with the police, adding that enough security will be provided.
While addressing journalists, Kianda said the police have launched investigations into the incident, and are following several leads.
“This kind of murder is bound to raise a lot of theories. I urge Garissa residents to leave everything to the investigative arm of the police. At this point it’s not easy to pinpoint the cause of the murder,” he said.
“At this point in time, we are treating the incident as normal crime, but we will get down to the bottom of this. I want to assure everyone that we will catch up with those behind this inhuman act,” he added.
The CC who was accompanied by Garissa OCPD Aron Moriase and other senior security officers said security in Garissa town is under control and patrols have been enhanced.
“The gang took advantage of the enclosed hotel to carry out their act. We have enough security personnel and vehicles patrolling the town and its outskirts,” said Mr Kianda.
The police identified the three victims as Mr Kassim Rashid (watchman), Abdisalan Ibrahim and Salat Salah, both waiters at the hotel.
