Busia Water and Sewerage Services Company (Buwassco) has apologised for the inconvenience caused to Busia residents after water taps went dry for over a week. The residents who rely on the Mundika Water in Matayos sub-county project woke up on Saturday morning to find water in their taps after one week.Buwassco acting managing director Isaiah Andati said the water shortage was attributed to a major breakdown of high lift pumps whose spare parts were not locally available."We had to look for them elsewhere. We received them on the eve of January 18 and the engineers worked around the clock to restore normalcy,” said Andati on Saturday.“Operations at the Mundika treatment works is now in full gear. Regarding the low water levels, we have put obstruction structures on Suo River to raise the water levels.”Buwassco's mandate is to provide water and sewerage services to the residents of Busia County. The water body took over the operations of the Kocholia-Malakisi water scheme from Nzoia water Services Company in November 2016.
