The water company says that most government institutions have not been paying their water bills for the past one year. Nawassco’s superintendent in charge of distribution Gilbert Mutai says that institutions owing the company money include the Nakuru high court, government ministries and parastatals, the Nakuru main GK prison as well as the Nakuru National park.

Mutai says that most government institutions are reluctant to pay the bills and warned that they might be forced to cut off water supply to those institutions.

“We always have a problem with government institutions when it comes to paying bills. They always have the excuse that the government has not given them money and as we speak, we are demanding over twelve million from these institutions,” said Mutai.

He said that they are in talks with the affected institutions and if the talks fail to bear fruit, Nawassco will have no option but to disconnect the water.

“We have talked to them and we have agreed to settle the matter quickly but if we do not get a solution, we will do the necessary. The delay in paying water bills is greatly affecting our operations,” he said.
