Over 100 workers of Mavoko Water and Sewerage Company went on job go slow on Thursday over pay increment.
The employees who included casual labourers and part of the management reported to work as usual but boycotted work and instead camped outside the company's offices in Athi River town.
They claimed some of the officials of the company are corrupt hence need to either resign or be sacked by Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua, since water services is a devolved function so that the workers get paid as per their collective bargaining agreement.
"It is unfortunate that Mavoko residents are yearning for water while employees of Mavoko Water and Sewerage Services are agitating for better pay," said Mutua.
Michael Mutua, who is the Athi River Township MCA, said the company workers were underpaid.
It forced the company's management to hold impromptu meeting with the workers' and local leadership to contain the situation.
The meeting also attended by the Mavoko sub county administrator, Onesmus Ituo, resolved that all individuals mentioned as corrupt in the company's management should be sacked.
"Workers of Mavoko Water and Sewerage Company are on job go slow today demanding salary increment, we as leaders of the region have resolved at the meeting that all corrupt people in the firm be sacked by leadership of Machakos government," said Mutua.
Mutua said the meeting also resolved that the workers resume work tomorrow as relevant authorities looked into the workers' combined bargaining agreement.
He said no employee engaged in the go slow should be victimized by the institution's management for pushing for the company to respect their combined bargaining agreement.
